The coast of the island of Procida is characterized by many natural bays and coves. It is mostly made up of areas overlooking the sea, but also several sandy areas.

Procida beaches: location and characteristics

The Procida beaches are easily accessible by land. They are divided into “hot beaches” and “cold beaches”. The warm beaches are located to the west and are illuminated for most of the day, while the cold ones, on the other hand, are to the east and start to have no direct sun as early as 3pm.

Therefore the choice of the right beach can also depend on this detail.

All the beaches of Procida are partly free (access and bathing is totally free) and a portion, however, is managed by one or more bathing establishments. The Ciracciolo beach, for example, which is the largest, has 3 managers.

All the beaches are sandy, with the exception of Lingua beach which is pebbly, so in that case it is advisable to wear shoes.

The sand, on the other hand, is coarse and very dark, tending towards black, of volcanic origin. In fact, the island of Procida is actually made up of the remains of at least 4 volcanoes. Of the latter, the craters that form the beautiful bays and the islet of Vivara are still visible, which can be visited by sea with our boat tours.

The most beautiful beach in Procida

There is no beach in Procida more beautiful than the others: each has its own particularity.
The Pozzo Vecchio beach, renamed Postman’s beach, was the location of the film of the same name by Massimo Troisi.
Halfway between the Ciracciolo and Ciraccio beaches it is possible to admire the Procida stacks up close, tuff structures almost close to the shore.

The Chiaia beach is opposite the Corricella (fishermen’s port, with a hundred colorful houses), and the former prison (Palazzo d’Avalos), therefore it has a special view. This beach is penalized by the 186 steps which however make it not very crowded.

The beaches of the caves (or of the silurenza) and that of the tongue are just a few minutes from the hydrofoil and ferry moorings: therefore also suitable for those who stay for a short time or want to enjoy the sea of Procida until the last minute.
